Kim Kardashian

Kim Kardashian is often described as “famous for being famous”, and that label is now badly out of date. Twenty years after reality TV made her a household name, she runs one of the most successful clothing brands in the United States, has studied law, and has started taking acting roles.

Los Angeles, and reality TV

She was born on 21 October 1980 in Los Angeles. Her family became world-famous with Keeping Up with the Kardashians, which ran on E! from 2007 to 2021 and turned the Kardashian-Jenner family into a brand of its own. Since 2022 the family’s show has continued on Hulu as The Kardashians.

SKIMS and SKKN

Her biggest success is SKIMS, the shapewear and clothing brand she launched in 2019. It grew into one of the most valuable fashion start-ups in the country. On the beauty side, her first line, KKW Beauty, was relaunched as SKKN BY KIM in 2022.

Law and criminal justice reform

This is the part people don’t expect. Kim campaigned for the release of Alice Marie Johnson, whose sentence was commuted in 2018, and she has kept working on prison reform cases since. She also chose to study law through California’s apprenticeship route and passed the “baby bar” exam in 2021, on her fourth attempt.

Acting

She has moved into scripted TV too, with a role in American Horror Story: Delicate in 2023 and a lead role in the legal drama All’s Fair in 2025.

Family

Kim has four children with Kanye West. Their divorce was finalised in 2022.
